back to school
I am sitting in my Web design class right now, surrounded by Macs. I am also largely surrounded by people who have no idea how to use one. Which means we are going through Mac tutorials! This should be the easiest class ever.

Mac daddy
As an Apple fanboy, it gives me great pleasure to see Macs out "in the wild." I already point out any Mac appearances in television or movies, which my girlfriend mocks me endlessly for, but that still isn't as cool as seeing regular people using them in everyday situations. Example: I am sitting in Panera Bread right now, and of the 10 or so people using their laptops, four of them are on MacBooks. Pretty friggin' sweet. The OS X marketshare may still be at like, 6%, but the real world ratio is definitely going up. now playing on iPod: Pat McGee Band "Anybody" Labels: mac, tech

April fooled
This is the first entry to ES.com that I'm posting with the iPod touch so bear with me if I make any mistakes... Yesterday being April Fools Day, the internet was all atwitter with random-ass pranks. Some of them were lame: MacUser, one of my favorite Apple blogs, chimed in with a dizzying array of occasionally-funny news stories. But the prank I found most amusing came from Woot. On top of it being 2-for-Tuesday, they had a woot-off! Only, everytime an item sold it was replaced by an identical item. Pure hilarity. The real April fool was on us though because this snow is goddamn ridiculous. On top of that, the wet snow pack is gonna make it almost impossible to reach 55 this weekend like it was supposed to before the snow fell. DAMN IT. Oh well, welcome to Minnesota, guys. I should probably put something new up here
wow, it's been a while.. sorry. well, I've been pretty busy but at the same time not a lot has happened. the big plans I had for last weekend never really came to fruition so I pretty much just sat around. um, I also finally went to a Twins game today. it's really interesting that they can have an awesome outing one night, then the next day when I actually decide to attend a game, they get their asses handed to them on a big silver platter carried by one CC Sabathia. thanks a lot, you fucks. I've also been spending a lot of time helping the Followers gear up for the '06 tour, which I am super excited about. there's also a decent amount of trepidation there, but then that's kinda par for the course when you're dealing with a horde of mostly unruly teenagers. I feel bad for poor Rob, who's probably gonna have a full head of gray hair by the end of the tour, and he may just spontaneously combust from the stress level. either way, I'm gonna be entertained. THE BALL PARK IS FIINALLY BEING BUILT I'm gonna just start doing all my shopping and eating in Hennepin County. because that will, unless my years of construction wisdom fail me, heighten the construction pace to almost human levels to enable the first game to be played next Thursday rather than 2010. I mean, my god, I'll be like 206 30 by then. I CAN'T WAIT. I saw this article at Yahoo! today. that's good research right there. oh and also? what's the deal with Yahoo! rolling out this new front page, and not building in compatibility with Safari? I mean, it's only the most used Mac browser out there. and the lack of video content compatibility also angers me. I mean, one would think you'd wanna build in support for the OS choice of affluent gay creative professionals. I'm done, totally tired. plus I think I have another vomit inducing headache coming on. later! now playing on iTunes: Jim Gaffigan Beyond the PaleLabels: internet, local, mac, personal, site, twins

w00t for consumerism
so, the other day I sold my old iPod photo 40GB to finance the purchase of a spankin' new 60GB iPod with video (aptly named mandyPod with video). and yes, I know I crapped all over the idea of the videopod as recently as a few months ago. so I sold out... what of it? anyhoo, due to this upgrade in gadgetry, I started looking into videos to add to my music collection. and after downloading Podner and HandBrake I have a few movies, music videos, and Simpsons and South Park eipisodes on the pod. however, there is one thing missing: the video version of the Pat McGee Band's 'Must Have Been Love.' if somehow someone could please convert this video into .mp4 format, or direct me to where I can find one, I'd be forever indebted to them. now playing on iPod: Super TroopersLabels: internet, ipod, mac, personal

so I'm sufficiently drunk for the second night in a row. I should probably have that looked into. but for now, since I haven't updated in the longest and I'm in a state where I don't really care what I say, here are some bullet points for the day: I finally got my RAZR V3c. 'twas about time, since the Samsung keeps taking periodic dunps on me. I love it except for the fact that Verizon decided to disable OBEX profiles for some inane reason, and I had to enter all my phonebook info in maually. this was a drag, which also led to... unfortunate drunkdials that I already regret I called two people having a good time because my over-neediness and insecurity compelled me to call them and see if I could somehow join the good time. I also called a couple other random people, and left a rather incriminating voicemail at one number. hopefully, she'll just delete that one and forget that I ever called her. I also experienced a downswing in traffic due to a preventable server outage. who knew that hosting bills needed to be paid periodically? well, I did, but I forgot to update my card info when I got my new checkcard. whoops! my bad... it's not like I've had anything of significance to post because I'm busy working on... the OS X Browser War! yeah this asinine idea continues to eat up my time. I'm currently spending most of my time this week browsing teh internets with Camino, though this post was written in Firefox to ensure compatibility. hopefully by the end of the century, I'll have something meaningful to file in regards to my browser report. THE TWINS ARE IN SEASON AGAIN yay for baseball! Torii Hunter homered on the first spring pitch he saw, and Lew Ford and Joe Mauer chipped in with their own solo shots to power the Twins into a 6-3 victory over the Beantowns. I know it's super early still, but hey, spring training rules the roost. the last two things I'll mentions are: I know I've neglected the site, yet again, but I do promise to do better in the spring months, and the RAZR's megapixel camera should make it easier to post to the photoblog that hasn't been touched in eight months. also, I've been crushing on this one chick for a while, but I think it's pretty obvious to everyone that knows the situation that nothing is gonna happen. so I decided this afternoon that I'm gonna let it drop and move on. I've pretty much known that I should have done this like a month ago, but it's better late than never in my opinion. see you in the morning, after I sober up! now playing on iTunes: Stephen Kellogg 'My Sweet Charade' Labels: drunk, mac, personal, site, twins

motherfuck
I'm getting pretty damned tired of Firefox for OS X, with it's constant freezing and hiccuping, and lack of integration with the Tiger shell. on top of that, the latest security update borked all of my plugins. thus, I'm starting a project that I'm dubbing the OS X Browser War. yeah, Macworld, MacAddict and countless other sites have done it, but not to this scale I think. so far, the browsers I've downloaded successfully are Firefox, Netscape, Camino, Shiira and Opera, and I'm working on getting Internet Explorer and Mozilla to go along with the inhouse fave Safari. over the next two weeks I'll get up close and personal with each browser, and present my findings. this'll be some nerdy fun! now playing on iTunes: Hootie 'She Crawls Away' Labels: mac, site

The Twins, the weather and the obligatory iPod reference
Now playing on the iPod: Train "Meet Virginia"
Hah.. I guess I'm not making this as regular as I would have liked. What has it been now, a week? Anyhoo..
Today I was actually able to go to school without a jacket. Sweet. The other thing on my mind right now is the iminent season opener for the Twins. A lot of negativity has surrounded those cats recently and I for one am extremely optimistic for the 2004 season, what with the new "Soul Patrol" outfield of Stewart, Jones and Hunter, and the solid infield, and spanking-new local boy Joe Mauer behind the dish. The only thing that really gets my panties in a bunch is this whole fiasco with Victory Sports One and the fact that there may only be 27 games available to me to watch. That fucking sucks, my friends. How am I supposed to watch my Twins on TV if nobody will pick the channel up? Thanks a lot, Carl Pohl-ass.
I'm putting up fliers Friday to sell my PC. I'm hoping to get $1500 out of it, which would mostly pay for my Mac. I figured that if it comes to that, where I can't personally migrate files from my PC to my Mac, I can devise an elaborate system of pulleys, smoke and mirrors to make sure I keep all my files. The main thing I'm worried about is losing my MP3's. Oh well, we'll see. Labels: mac, personal, twins, weather

spring break is here.. yay!
Now playing on iTunes: John Mayer "New Deep"
Well I succombed to media pressure and yesterday I went to see The Passion of the Christ with my parents and some friends from church. Wow, what an intense movie. The suffering of Jesus during his final days on earth were portrayed so well on a human level, much more so than the countless Holy Week/Easter sermons, or the Bible, or even those cute little Sunday school stories ever could. i was touched more deeply by this film than by anything else in recent memory, and the special part is that I was able to share in this moment with a packed theater, moved to a reverent silence, and that's where the success of "Passion" ultimately lies, in that people are albe to see whet he went through for us.
On a much weightier issue (wink wink) I decided over the weekend that a switch to Mac is in my future. I was looking at the gleaming new G5's on Saturday and after playing with it for a good hour my decision was made. So there goes another $1500 ... thanks a lot, iPod.
Just thought you'd like to know. :) Later. Labels: ipod, mac, media, personal
